Type of Organization The General Practice Services Committee (GPSC) is a joint committee formed under the 2002 Agreement between BC’s doctors and the provincial government
Purpose Supports family and general practice physicians by developing and implementing programs that improve health care for patients and job satisfaction for physicians

Programs

Full-service Family Practice Incentive Program

Compensates physicians for delivery of guideline-based care. Includes fees for:

  • Chronic disease management
  • Mental health care
  • Complex care management
  • Facility and community conferencing
  • Maternity and obstetrical care
  • Palliative care planning and management
  • Prevention

Additional funding for:

  • Maternity Care for BC (MC4BC)

 

Practice Support Program (PSP)

Provides training and support for physicians and their MOAs to improve clinical and practice management. Subject areas include:

  • Advanced Access/Office Efficiency
  • Group Medical Visits (includes Patient Self-management and Health Literacy)
  • Chronic Disease management
  • Adult Mental Health
  • End of Life
  • Child and Youth Mental Health (in development)
  • Shared System of Care for Patients with COPD/heart failure (in development)

 

Divisions of Family Practice

Community-based affiliations of FPs working together to achieve common health care goals. Currently, there are 29 divisions that encompass 109 communities; discussions
are under way in up to another eight areas of the province

 

Community Healthcare Resource Directory (CHARD)

A free, secure, searchable web-based database for health care providers designed to provide comprehensive, up-to-date listings for community health care referral resources

Lists nearly 80% of referral resources accessed by FPs, including:

  • Programs and services
  • 6000 BC specialist physicians
  • Nearly 18 000 allied health practitioners in cancer, cardiac, diabetes, geriatric, HIV/AIDS, infectious disease, mental health and addiction, musculoskeletal, neurodegenerative, palliative, renal, and respiratory care
